The Answers of Essays According to Sweeney Todd Film

Willie tri sakti / 11408048

1. the tale he is a barber who murders wealthy customers by slitting their throats, then pulling a lever while they are in his barber's chair which, unknown to them, is fixed to a revolving trap-door, making them fall backward into the basement. But in many adaptations of the tale, the murdering process is reversed, meaning that he pulls a lever causing them to drop into the basement and then slits their throats. After Todd has robbed his dead victims of their goods, Mrs.Lovet, his partner in crime (in some later versions, his friend who wants to become his lover), assists him in disposing of the bodies by having their flesh baked into meat piece, and selling them to the unsuspecting customers of her pie shop. Todd's barber shop is situated at 186 fleet street, London, next to St.dunstans church, and is connected to Mrs. Lovett's pie shop in nearby Bell Yard by means of an underground passage.

2. This movie is not a true story.
Although there are some who claim that Sweeney Todd really existed and was responsible for 160 murders in 18th century London. Although the great story telling like all legends it is steeped in fiction so the story of Sweeney Todd according to the producers is far from fact and clearly fiction.

3. I think the strains of a song by todd as will be full of vengeance. therefore, the strains of the song a bit weird and not right when todd kill people.

4. I don't like, because when the time todd will kill the victim he sing a song first, that's not matching with the delivery to the underground passage.

5. Yes, I have. when the way he kills many people, with sing a song and directly cut the throat many people. I think the massage is about vengeance with people in that town.

Thoughts About "Sweeney Todd" Movie

1. Sweeney Todd is a story about a man who killed people. He pretended as barber. However, actually he kills wealthy customers. He killed them by slitting their throats, after that he pulling them into the basement. He did it because he wanted to get revenge to people who disturb his life.

2. Yes, Sweeney Todd was based on a true story because it talked about a man who had very big anger and hatred because people did many bad things in his life. After that he wanted to get some revenge to people by killed them. We can compare in our daily life, some people ever felt that they have big anger and it make them blind, so they do many bad things but that this not change our life. In the end of this story he still lost everything, his life didn’t change.

3&4
Music plays that play in that scene is very important. The music can describe and put the atmosphere of that story. When I heard the music I felt enjoyed and like to hear that. It could bring the audience to felt what the actor want to do. Sometime the audience can be bored because of the film but music can make us interesting again

5. My favorite scene is when Mr. Todd killed all of his costumer. The actor got the character. There are a full of anger on his face.

Thoughts About "Sweeney Todd" Movie

1. Sweeney Todd is about a grudge holder person who feels regretful at the last. He tries to revenge but this hatefulness bring him to a unpredictable accident that he regrets. He becomes a crazy murderer because of his grudge.

2. It could be based on true story because in my opinion, scripwriter could get some idea by exploring the real situation around them. They can bring up the true history to the screen. And I have found a lot of movie that based on true history.

3&4. Sweeney Todd is a bit odd but I like it. The music is awesome. Highly recommend, but it may not be your style of music. If you like musicals and have a fondness for the macabre, this is for you. The songs are delivered with a slosh of wry and a slice of hate. So, from the song, the instrumental background, we can feel the sadness, hateness, happiness, worriness, anger, scare, etc. This music make me easier to feel what the actors/actresses feeling.

5. my favorite part is when the Judge was killed by Benjamin Parker. For me when I saw the people who raped someone's wife died, it feels like "he deserves to die". Very happy to see this kind of people died with very hurtful way.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

by: Rya Angelina - 11408030

1

Sweeney Todd is about a man who wanted to get revenge toward the people who had ruined his life. His way of revenge was by opening a barbershop and hoping that his target will come someday so he can kill him by cutting his target’s throat with a shaving knife.

2

Yes, I think Sweeney Todd was based on a true story. I come to this conclusion because somehow this movie is so human... i mean, this movie is making sense because it's a story someone who was blinded with anger and hatred because of the injustice in his life so he wanted to get some revenge to people who did bad things to him. Sadly, this revenge did not do any change to his life; he still lost everything, even sometimes the pain is worse than it was before. I find this kind of experience a lot in real life, so i suppose that there is a high probability that this movie was based on true story.

3 & 4

Music plays a very important role in this movie because the music part took like half duration of the movie. And I think the music is brilliant, it can create the atmosphere of the underlying story without having to have a boring dialogue between two people. The music can also create my mood like the pity I felt when the music is rumbling like a distant thunder (it can be seen when Mrs. Lovett told Sweeney Todd what had happened to Lucy, his wife, after he left) or when the music (Gosh, I don’t know how to say it, you know, it’s the music that usually played to make the viewer feel tense) stimulates the anxiety in me (it can be seen when Mr. Todd knew that Mrs. Lovett misled him about the existence of his wife and then angrily Mr. Todd took Mrs. Lovett to dance and ended the dance by killing her)

5

My favorite is when Mr. Todd and Mrs. Lovett tried to hide the dead body of the Italian barber that was killed by Mr. Todd and they also agreed to kill more people and make the flesh of the victim as the ingredients of the pie. All of this happened because Mrs. Lovett was blinded by love; therefore she tried to hide Mr. Todd’s crime while on the other hand Mr. Todd was blinded with anger and hatred toward Judge Turpin; therefore he tried to be with Mrs. Lovett, the only one who can help her to fulfill his revenge. I think this part is the bridge that leads the story to be more interesting.

About Sweeney Todd by Kim Jeong-Hyeon (11408043)

1. What is Sweeney Todd about?

- This movie is about a man who lost his wife and daughter because of judge, so he seeks his revenge. he made many crimes. He could not see anything because he has revengeful thought. he only thinking about kill judge who stolen his wife and daughter and sent him jail. It is his goal.
he was doing everything for his goal, but it made tragic ending. he killed his wife by himself. I think the main idea of this movie is some revengeful thought could be poor

2. Do you think it was based on a true story? Explain!

- Actually, I do not know, but it could based on true story, because I think some people who has power as judge in the movie at that era, if they want to get something they use their power for it. because of it common people like benjamin in the movie can have anger to people who have power, so I think it could based on true story.

3. How can the music underline the meaning of the words?

- because the music has melody, melody will help people to feel mood of the situation. For example, if Mr, todd said " I will kill him" without sound, we will understand the meaning of the words that definition meaning, but if we heard same sentence with anger sound which use many base sounds, we can feel that he said this sentence with anger. because of it I think the music help people to feel and understand what is the meaning of the words.

4. Do you like the way the music play a part of this movie? Explain!

- Yes, because I tried to watch this movie without music I mean, sound. I did not get any thing from this movie. I could not into it. this movie could like funny movie. actor always open their month and so on. However, when I watched this movie with the music I could feel each character's feelings. the way the music play of this movie really help to understand this movie. that is why I like it.

5. What is your favorite part? How does it communicate the messege to you?

- Mr.Todd told his daughter "forger my face". just into this part, because his daughter saw Todd kill judge and her real mother. that judge ( mr, bumkin? ) is only one family to her, and she does not know her real father's face. that time is the first time she met her real father, but Todd told her that forget his face, because he had to check up downstair at that time. what a poor family is. all of this from mr.Todd's revenge. He only see his anger even his family were around him he could not see them. Moreover, he gave bad memories to his daughter that he killed judge and his wife.

ROMEO AND JULIET

Romeo and Juliet is a famous old story back on the year of 1600. The
story is still regarded as one of Shakespeare's best. The point of the
story is about a young man and young lady who falled in love.
Unfortunately, their famiilies hate each other. Their families fight
each other as the enemies on that peroid.
What I learn from the story, they are having true love. During that
time can say it is forbidden love, because the families won't agree.
But, if we go beyond the time, and living on this modern era,
everything is changing. and the social life on the people is changing.
Every young man and lady now, don't really depend on their families to
decide their own future nad destiny. People have more chance to take
their own fate including who they love.
So, my conclusion, the story is really inspiring of true love in this
modern era, that they want to face with all obstacles, although the
ending is tragic.

1. What is so tragic about Oedipus fate? Why did it happen? (Oedipus The King)
It feels so tragical because both Oedipus and his parents want to avoid the oracle that Oedipus will kill his father and marry his mother but in the end it happened exactly like the oracle. Oedipus' parents avoided it by trying to kill him which supposed to be done by a courier, but the courier felt pity of Oedipus and let him go. Later, when Oedipus grew up and become a man, he wanted to avoid the oracle by running away to other country, which happened to be his biological parents' country.

2. How does Everyman match with morality drama characterization? (Everyman)
'Everyman' is searching for God. and during his journey to meet God, 'Everyman' met a lot of things that make him learn a lot that maybe the true and pure love can be given only by God.

3. How Does personification play a great role in this play? (Everyman)
The author use personification like Beauty, Intelligence, Fellowship, and Good Works as the names for the friends 'everyman' asked to accompany him, but none of them will. whic means that the pleasures like that aren't eternity or loyal. they can please you when you want to be pleased but you can't count on them when you need them.

4. Does assassinating a leader for the good of the people constitute bravery worthy of a tragic hero or can the end never justify the means? (Julius Caesar)
Yes, i think it's worth it. Doing something good doesn't mean you need praise or something like that as a reward for doing it.

A1 : I think Oedipus has a very tragic fast, because his father wants to eschew his fate. But in the end of the story he still gets his unlucky fate. He kills his father then he marries with his mother. His father, Laius should not go to the oracle and believes what the oracle says to him. The oracle said Laius will be killed by his son, then after he hear that he talk to someone to kill Oedipus, his son but the soldier doesn’t kill him. What the oracle said is come true. As we know like suggestion, when we believe with something, it can be happen. From this story we learn to believe in God, don’t believe in oracle.

A2 : Every man story is about the man who has different character that don’t follow God rule. They want to look for happiness in this world and they don’t care about the others. They don’t care about morality and what God wants. So, the author imagines people in this world as everyman.

A3 : Hmmmmmmm. I still confuse to answer this question.

A4 : I don’t think so, like Ashely said, no body perfect. So I what Brutus did to Julius is big mistake. Not only that he accused Julius Caesar too. Although Julius Caesar did a mistake, we shouldn’t kill him. They can found the other solution.

Q1: What is so tragic about Oedipus fate? Why did it happen? (Oedipus The King)

A1: In my opinion, Oedipus fate is really tragic, because he is trying to escape the curse that he thought he was in, which is killing his adopted father and marrying his adopted mother. in the end he did not run away from it, quite the contrary actually, he smash it right in the head by killing his biological father which is Laius, and marrying his own mother Jocasta. so its like trying to escape from a crocodile mouth but jumping right to the lion nest. furthermore he said that when he found the murderer of his father, he will exiled him. turns out he blinded himself and exiled himself, tragic huh

Q2: How does Everyman match with morality drama characterization? (Everyman)

A2: i think its because it tells of a story of men who have different personality, trait, and sin who will not follow the path of righteus, and the author wants the opposite which is following Gods path

Q3: How Does personification play a great role in this play? (Everyman)

A3: Even tough the 7 deadly sins do not included in the play, but the play does borrow the technique and personifies such abstracts as Beauty, Intelligence, Fellowship, and Good Works.

Q4: Does assassinating a leader for the good of the people constitute bravery worthy of a tragic hero or can the end never justify the means? (Julius Caesar)

A4: it is worthy, a hero will do anything that he believes true and just. but in julius case brutus was tricked and decieved, so he is a hero for his own country, and he is tragic because he was tricked to believe that what he did was justice

DISCUSSION 1.

Oedipus has imprecation when his was born. his parents (Laius and Jocasta) throwed away him another country. Actually, that was not throwed away, his parents thought Oedipus was already death because Oedipus' imprecation is he will kill his father and he will get marriged with his mother. His parents really don't want to it will be true, so they tried to kill Oedipus. However, He still lived another country and when He grown up he met his parents. Oedipus fell in love with his mother. His father and him fought because both of them wanna get one woman's love Finally, Oedipus killed his father because of his mother. His mother and Oedipus had a baby. and they knew that they are real mother and son. His mother really wanna keep this secret, Oedipus can't accept this happening. He lost his family because of him. this is a tragic about Oedipus' fate.

DISCUSSION 2.

'Everyman' has to go to meet God. Everyman already knew that he will be die then, he wanna find friends who can accompany him to meet God. Everyman met a lot of friends during going to God and he asked them follow him. the important thing is those friends' name are very familer to us. 'fellowship, kindred, cousin, Knowledge, beauty,. etc' those of things always tempted us and we also really wanna get those of things. they are really sweet when we live on the earth but, we can see the situation of Everyman they didn't wanna follow him. but, good deeds is the only one who want to follow Everyman. why, author wrote their name are like this? In my opinion, people made a lot of crime and no rule to them very free at Mediecval England. so, author wanted say that is not what God wanted.

DISCUSSION 3.

I don't think so. Everybody is not perfect so, we can not say that Brutus' decision was correct. I think it can make Roma is better city If Brutus did not kill Julius caesar and He would be the only one King. and Of cause we can not kill anybody with any reason. that is God's work.

P.S : ma'am I am not sure that I really understood your Question.....;
But, I did my best thanks
